Welcome to the Marks Family Page
The extended Marks family here refers to the descendants of George Vincent Marks and Pauline (Wagner) Marks, born in Austria in April 1856 and June 1861, respectively. I don't know when they arrived in the US, but the fourth of their six children was my grandfather, Aloysius Sylvester Marks, born in Pittsburgh, PA on February 12, 1893. He married Amelia Mary Wilkins on February 17, 1912. Together they raised eight children who, in time raised their own families, mostly in the Pittsburgh area. I'm a member of this third US-born generation that consists of 39 first cousins (grand children of Al & Amelia). About half of this kindred appear in this family photo from c. 1948.
As cousins growing up in the mid-20th century Pittsburgh, we were a fairly tight-knit family. The Marks family is still well represented in the Pittsburgh area but ours and succeeding generations have widely dispersed throughout the US and beyond. An annual Marks family reunion in Pittsburgh was started by Amelia in the late 1970's and has taken place every year since, typically on the last Saturday in July.
As one generation replaces the next and we move into the second decade of the 21st century, the extended Marks family is more dispersed than ever so this blog is created to hopefully provide a way to document our roots and to provide a permanent connection for future generations.
This page was created provide a place to share news, events, memories, photos, or whathaveyou, and connect or reconnect with the extended Marks family.
